Second Italian-Japanese Workshop
GEOMETRIC PROPERTIES FOR
PARABOLIC AND ELLIPTIC PDE's

The
workshop is sponsored by the INdAM
- Istituto Nazionale di Alta Matematica "F.Severi" and
will be held in the Palazzone, an historical building of Cortona
(Tuscany), owned by the Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa.
The aim of the workshop, as well as in the previous edition (2009)
is to present the state of the art in the study of geometric
properties of the solutions of PDE's, mainly elliptic and parabolic.
The themes of the meeting will include, for example, critical points,
convexity, symmetry blow-up and asymptotic behaviour of solutions,
related geometric inequalities, and so on. The workshop also aims to
continue and possibly strengthen the collaboration (that now dates
back to 15 years ago) on these issues among japanese and italian
researchers.
There will be 22 long lectures (40 minutes) and 11 short ones (20
minutes). Part of the time will be devoted to the informal exchange
of ideas.
According
to the rules set by INdAM, the total number of participants is
restricted and participation is by personal invitation only.
Accommodation
Participants
are supposed to arrive on Sunday, June
19, and to leave on the evening of
Friday, June 24
or on Saturday, June 25.
The
site of the conference, the Palazzone, is about 2 kilometers far from
the center of Cortona. All the speakers will be accomodated with no
charge either at the Palazzone itself (12 bedrooms) or at the nearby
Hotel Oasi Neumann
(300
meters from the Palazzone). Other participants will be accomodated at
the Hotel Oasi
Neumann: there is an agreement of Scuola
Normale/INdAM with Hotel Oasi Neumann,
which offers special prices for participants to the meeting.
The
organization will reserve a room, either at the Palazzone or at Hotel
Oasi Neumann, for all the participants who have accepted the
invitation. Participants who prefer a different accommodation should
take care by themselves of the reservation.
The organization has decided that, in order to facilitate their
arrival on Sunday 19 (on that day, the Palazzone has restricted
opening hours that may be in conflict with airflight timetables),
all the japanese participants will be accomodated at the Hotel Oasi
Neumann.

Travel
You can
reach Cortona either by train or by car.
Train:
you must get either to TERONTOLA-CORTONA, which is between Rome (194
km) and Florence (122 km), or to CAMUCIA-CORTONA (on the same line,
200 km from Rome and 116 from Florence). You can consult the trains timetable
at the website Trenitalia. However, you must be aware that
the (summer) timetable for the workshop's week is not yet avaible online. In fact, it will only be available at the beginning of June or
a few days before. Generally, when the timetable change, 95% of the trains are confirmed.
Only a
few quick trains (IC) stop at Terontola-Cortona; no quick train stops
at Camucia-Cortona. From both railway stations you can get to Cortona
by bus or by taxi. Terontola is 11 km from Cortona, Camucia 5 km.
The
organizers intend to help the arrival of foreign participants by a
car-service from Terontola-Cortona station to the Hotel Oasi. Foreign
participants will be informed in due time about the service schedule.
Car:
take the highway from Florence to Rome; take the exit VAL DI
CHIANA and reach the speedway
connecting Siena and Perugia; take the direction to Perugia and leave
the speedway at one of the three exits CORTONA-via MANZANO,
CORTONA-road LAURETANA or CORTONA-State road n.71.
Lunches and Banquet
To all participants it will be offered a free lunch from Monday to
Friday at the Palazzone, and the conference banquet (on wednesday
night). The cost of the other meals is not covered by the
organization. Hotel Oasi offers to all the participants the special
price of 16 Euros for the dinner.
If
you have special food preferences (vegetarian, allergies etc.) please
indicate it in the registration
form.
Registration
Registration in Cortona will take place at the Palazzone on Sunday
afternoon from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. or on Monday morning from 8.30 a.m.
to 9.30 a.m. The first lecture will be scheduled at 9.30 a.m.
